and I are also experiencing the same fatal error. The world is very small, my component is named the same as Alex's.
Fatal error: Can't use method return value in write context in "path"/components/com_sails/models/orders.php on line 146
PHP Version 5.3.29
Joomla! 3.3.6 Stable

Hi Nancy,
I saw your post describing this same error, although the suggested solution on stack overflow that was posted in response to your query was a bit beyond my skills so I wasn't able to fix my issue that way.
I did find however that you can get the custom component working if you adjust the code as mentioned in my previous comment. I'd best mention that I don't know the full extent of what else could happen as a result of this change, it's entirely possible that other functions of your component could be affected as well.
However, using this change I was at least able to get my list view to show up.
My main issue now is that I cannot rearrange the order of the records of the front end using the drag and drop method mentioned in this thread. This may be a result of the above mentioned code change, I don't know.
My research suggests that the main core of this problem lies in php incompatibility with the code, although you probably already know this.
I just want to be able to rearrange the order of the records in my list view. There used to be an easy drag and drop method to get this done, now it doesn't seem to do that any more.

Hi Victor and Soren,
Thanks again for your help on this - great support on here!
However, I am still finding that I am not able to rearrange the order of my list using the drag and drop method.
I mean, I can of course rearrange the records in the admin area, but ideally it would be great if these custom orders would also be reflected in the front end list view.
Hope this makes sense!
